(Re)imagining Glasgow

The Glasgow Institute of Architects, in collaboration with filmmaker Chris Leslie, has undertaken a captivating project for Scotland’s Festival of Architecture 2016. In this initiative, Leslie has been commissioned to craft a compelling 15-minute film titled “Reimagining Glasgow.” Delving into the city’s evolution over the past four decades, the film offers a fresh perspective on Glasgow’s regeneration efforts, juxtaposing past promises with contemporary realities.

Drawing inspiration from Oscar Marzaroli’s iconic 1970 documentary “Glasgow 1980,” Leslie’s work cleverly reinterprets the narrative by incorporating previously unreleased footage captured by Marzaroli for an unreleased sequel, “Glasgow’s Progress.” Seamlessly blending these archival materials with contemporary visuals of present-day Glasgow, the film showcases the dynamic transformation the city has undergone.

“Reimagining Glasgow” not only documents the physical changes within the urban landscape but also prompts viewers to contemplate the deeper implications of Glasgow’s ongoing urban renewal. Through its exploration of demolition, reinvention, and societal shifts, the film raises thought-provoking questions about the sustainability and inclusivity of the city’s development trajectory.

The film had its sold out premiere at the Glasgow Short Film Festival in 2015. Film is not available online but available on request for special screenings due to archive licensing.
